Make the same design fit more than one size#

A large widget may have room for a heading and seven list entries, while a small widget needs less information. The size controls let you check those versions of your design before you put one on your Home Screen.

The main size is the starting layout, marked with a star. Other sizes follow a layer’s main-size position until you move it separately on one of them. A size Look is an alternative appearance for a chosen size—for example, smaller text or fewer list entries.

Open your saved widget in Library, then tap Design Visually. The size buttons are above the canvas; Looks is in the toolbar after you select a piece.

Switch sizes#

Use the size controls above the canvas to preview the available sizes. A star marks the main size. Availability on a Home Screen depends on the device; the editor’s preview is not a guarantee that iOS offers that size there.

Understand the main size#

A layer on the widget follows its main-size position until another size has a position of its own. Move it on the main size to change the sizes that still follow it.

Move or resize it on another size to adjust that size separately. In Position & Size → Move, Match main size removes a separate position.

Make a size Look#

  1. Select a layer and open Looks

    Choose On some sizes.

  2. Choose a size

Tap the offered On Small, On Medium, or another available size. An existing Look for that size opens instead of creating another.

  3. Set Sizes and What changes

Choose which sizes the Look covers, then edit the changes using the offered tools.

What can change#

Size Looks can change supported appearance and layout settings, such as smaller text, hiding a layer, a group’s arrangement, a list’s row count or layout, or a calendar’s view. Controls that stay shared are labeled as shared in the app.

If Looks overlap#

When two size Looks cover the same size, the higher one is used there. Data Looks are applied on top of size Looks. Check both when a layer looks different from what you expected.
